I ran 9 miles on the Lake Youngs trail today. It was raining buckets, the trail was really wet, standing water an inch deep for the entire 9 miles with mud and stuff. And due to the recent storm, there were some logs and sticks on the trail to jump over. Water squished out the sides of my shoes the whole way. Did I say it was wet? It was.
And who put all those freakin hills on that trail? That really hurt. Somebody needs to get a D9 in there and flatten that dog out. It doesn't suit my running style. I am more of a flat trail runner. Hills blow. The first half of the run, I went up the hills slow, the second half of the run, I found that walking up the hills was an opportunity to work on my walking form. It is an often overlooked aspect of training for long event.
1 hour 44 minutes for the 9 mile run. I know that is slow, but considering it was hilly and wet and muddy, I think I am freakin superman. Freakin superman. I said it.
I was packing an extra 4 pounds of water soaked clothes on the run that normally wouldn't be with me. So I attribute my unimpressive run time to that 4 pounds. The extra 20 pounds of muffin top that I carry had nothing to do with it.
Duane finished 13 minutes ahead of me, Jim 6 minutes ahead. Nobody was behind me. I was the sweeper.
I have ice on both knees and a coffee cup in hand, so that is a plus. I put my muddy wet clothes in the laundry room to await the laundry elves that show up to do my wash. I have good support at home. Laundry elves.
Oh, and I bought a new pair of Brooks Adrenaline size 13 EE. My old Brooks were D wide. Too narrow. EE is the way to go, happy feet, no cramps, just raisin toes from the swamp run.
146 days to go.
